I've designed and taught over 200 seed-to-table cooking and herbalism classes with elementary through high school-age youth of color, rooted in food, gender, and racial justice. These classes took place in farm settings where kids learned to harvest, process, and prepare seasonal produce and medicinal herbs in a kitchen classroom.

Activity #10

Farmer Daniel
I have the privilege to live in a dreamy neighborhood nestled up in the hills, with plenty of neighborhood youth and a preschool. During the summertime, the kids come to our farm and pick cherry tomatoes and I gab about plants and anything else interesting under the sun. Through my life I’ve had the chance to work intentionally with all ages, and especially while raising a daughter, I feel called to work more and more with young folks.

Activity #11

Sasha Brown
In the past, I've been a lead teacher for Kiddie Academy in NW DC. I also have 3 children, ages 3, 8, and 9, who I currently homeschool. In college, I tutored children with special needs. I also had an internship in college in which I worked with military families and children, experiencing crises, because my major was Family Science at UMD, College Park.

Activity #12

Cori Achi
I have experience teaching virtual classes to Teens 13+ and outdoor nature classes and plant walks to ages 4-18. I will be teaching Virtual Forest School for Teens weekly for a Pittsburgh, PA Homeschool group starting in February 2021. My classes are project based, and include PowerPoints, storytelling, videos, herbalism, history, and indigenous wisdom. Sometimes my own kids help out by demonstrating skills or assisting me during class. In my younger days I worked as a preschool teacher and as an art teacher for inner city youth. I have been homeschooling my own children for more than 20 years.

I have been a youth educator for seven years, working with youth ages three to young adult. Prior to starting my own food education business earlier this month, I was the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington's Food and Nutrition Education Manager, where I ran the youth and adult culinary education programs. Since the beginning of COVID I've taught a youth cooking webinar series every month.

Monique Renee
I have been working with youth for over 15 years through teaching art, science, environmental science, gardening, herbalism, and beekeeping. I have taught as a teacher in public and private schools, in afterschool programs, through community organizations, and independently. I have mostly worked with Pk-8th graders. My degree is in Art Education and I am currently working on my Master in Ed in Curriculum and Instruction for Science.

Activity #15

Landis Pulidos
My experience working with youth is filled with joy and collective learning. I have 12 years experience working with ages 6-18 in youth organization settings. I have facilitated youth classes, and directed youth programs with LAYC in DC, Working Classroom and Art Matters in Albuquerque, and 2017 facilitated a Collective Healing Recipes youth workshop at the Chesapeake Herbal Gathering. I believe in meeting the young people where they are, and being able to build trust and joy as we co-hold and create together. I also love being a Tia to my niece and nephews; to play, learn, offer some teaching through a variety of hands-on activities.
